  • About Don

    Donald Cooke

There's a fancy bio on the back of the book. Yes, I've been working with computer mapping and GIS starting in 1967, before the GPS system was even designed. I became very interested in computers in the mid-1960s and found myself at the center of a project which designed a neat way ("DIME") to encode street maps. I was a surveyor in the Army and I've done some flying and sailing, so maps and coordinates make pretty good sense to me. I've started three companies, and am still working at Tele Atlas (which GDT became in 2004). My hobbies include astronomy, photography, windsurfing, ice hockey, vintage sports cars, chamber music ('cello), and probably others I can't think of right now. I've been married over 30 years and have three great kids. You could probably deduce most of this from a close read of the book, so that's all for now!
